What is lava rock:

Naturally occurring lava rocks are formed as volcanic magma rises to the surface, cools, and releases gases, giving them their coarse surface. These volcanic rocks can withstand high temperatures without damage or crumbling, with no artificial color added. They are natural black lava rocks with hints of browns and grays, sized from 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter, the same size OEM log sets use.
